In Vienna, 78,162 people have so far been vaccinated against the coronavirus without an appointment at a wide variety of locations. Now schools, among other places, are being targeted, reported by vienna.at.
Vaccination boxes in Vienna
For some time now, Vienna has also been vaccinating in an uncomplicated manner without an appointment. It was or is possible to pick up a jab both in vaccination centers and in rather unusual places such as supermarkets, at the vaccination boat on the Old Danube, in St. Stephen’s Cathedral or at the film festival on Rathausplatz. As the office of Health City Councillor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) announced on Tuesday, 78,162 people have so far taken up the spontaneous offer.
Mobile vaccination teams planned at Viennese schools
Currently, about 30 percent of 12- to 15-year-olds in Vienna have received at least one vaccination against the coronavirus, and among 16- to 19-year-olds the figure is 50 percent. Since Tuesday, the city’s vaccination buses have already been making stops at summer schools. Beginning Sept. 13, the city will also begin using mobile teams to vaccinate the largest 50 school sites, as well as vocational schools.
All other school sites can reserve appointment slots at vaccination centers nearby. The offer applies to both students and staff who have not yet been vaccinated.
Free choice of vaccine also possible without an appointment in Vienna
To make access to vaccination even more attractive, the vaccine can also be chosen in Vienna to some extent – at the Austria Center, a decision can even be made between all four available vaccines. Only for adolescents is there a restriction, as the vaccines from AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson are not approved for this age group.
Number of Corona vaccinations in Vienna declining
The number of Corona vaccinations has also declined recently in Vienna. However, there is no danger of vaccine running out in the city’s warehouses, City Hall is assured. This is because the vaccination centers are supplied by pharmaceutical wholesalers, it said. From there, they would be called off only in the quantities that can be vaccinated. The quantities would be taken from empirical values of the past days and weeks, explained a spokesman for Health Councillor Hacker to the APA.
